Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been formally charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed on 4 July 2025.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the charges relate to incidents involving three separate women, with the alleged offences taking place between October 2021 and July 2022. The CPS stated it authorised the charges following a review of evidence submitted by officers from the North Area Command Unit.
Partey, 31, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 5 August 2025. A CPS spokesperson added that the charges include:
- Two counts of rape involving one complainant,
- Three counts of rape involving a second complainant, and
- One count of sexual assault involving a third woman.
Partey has denied all allegations through his legal representation and is expected to contest the charges in court.
The Ghanaian international was released by Arsenal on 30 June 2025 after five seasons at the club, during which he made 167 appearances. Arsenal has not commented publicly on the charges, citing the ongoing legal process.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated:
“Criminal proceedings are now active and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could prejudice these proceedings.”
Support services have been made available to the alleged victims, including access to Rape Crisis and related organizations.
This case is ongoing.
