In a night of shocks, swagger, and sensational football, Chelsea thumped European giants Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 to win the first-ever edition of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Cole Palmer was the star of the show, scoring twice and setting up another in a breathtaking first-half performance. The 22-year-old opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, slotting home after Malo Gusto exposed space behind Nuno Mendes. Minutes later, Palmer delivered a carbon-copy finish to double Chelsea’s lead, wrong-footing Gianluigi Donnarumma with a slick dummy.

Palmer capped his dream night by threading a perfect through-ball to new signing Joao Pedro, who coolly chipped Donnarumma to make it 3-0 before halftime.

PSG tried to rally after the break, but Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez stood tall, pulling off vital saves from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembélé. Earlier, Joao Neves and Desire Doue missed key chances that could’ve changed the course of the final.

Things unraveled further for PSG when Neves was shown red late on for yanking Marc Cucurella’s hair—confirmed by VAR. The chaos continued after the final whistle when PSG manager Luis Enrique appeared to strike Joao Pedro during a heated altercation that could see disciplinary fallout.

Adding to the spectacle, more than 81,000 fans packed the stadium, including former U.S. President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino, to witness Chelsea claim the crown—and a cool £90 million payday.

The Blues now shift focus to pre-season clashes with Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan before opening their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace. PSG, meanwhile, have just a few weeks to regroup before a high-stakes UEFA Super Cup date with Tottenham on August 13.
