NCA Shuts Down Over 60 Radio Stations for Regulatory Violations

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has directed more than 60 FM radio stations across the country to immediately cease operations for violating broadcasting regulations.

Among the affected stations are Wontumi FM’s Accra and Takoradi branches, as well as Asaase Radio’s Accra station, according to information confirmed by 3News.com. The enforcement directive was officially announced on Wednesday, June 12, 2025.

This sweeping action follows a nationwide frequency audit and a directive from the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, instructing the NCA to intensify efforts to clamp down on non-compliant broadcasters. The move is part of a broader initiative to restore order and ensure full compliance with Ghana’s broadcasting laws.

The NCA cited continuous breaches of provisions outlined in L.I. 1991 and the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775) as the basis for the crackdown, stressing that the decision was necessary to uphold the integrity of the broadcasting sector.
