President Mahama Commits to Completing Krofrom Market by End of 2026

Abandoned Kumasi Market to Be Revived Under Government’s Market Enhancement Programme

President John Dramani Mahama has assured residents of Kumasi that the long-abandoned Krofrom Market will be completed and fully operational by the end of 2026, as part of his administration’s renewed focus on market infrastructure development.

The Krofrom Market project, which began in 2007, has stood incomplete for over a decade. The site has since deteriorated into a security threat, serving as a hideout for criminals and a haven for reptiles—drawing repeated concerns from local traders and residents.

During a stop in Kumasi on Wednesday, July 16, as part of his Thank-You Tour of the Ashanti Region, President Mahama visited the neglected site and pledged that the government will take all necessary steps to complete the project.

“In our manifesto, we have something called the Market Enhancement Programme, in which we have picked 18 markets in Ghana that we are going to structure,” President Mahama explained. “I have asked the Mayor to write to the Vice President and include Krofrom so that the project can be completed for good marketing. I believe that by the end of 2026, Krofrom Market will be completed.”

He reaffirmed his government’s broader commitment to modernizing markets across the country to support local economies and improve trading conditions.

Market Queen Adwenehemaa Nana Sakina expressed her appreciation to the President, calling him the only leader who has consistently shown commitment to completing stalled market projects and safeguarding the interests of traders. She pledged the full support of market women for his continued efforts.

The completion of the Krofrom Market is expected to breathe new life into commercial activity in the area, while also addressing longstanding issues of safety and sanitation.
