Ghana Police Bust Illegal Mining Operation, Arrest Three in Central Region

Special Anti-Galamsey Task Force seizes excavator, weapons, and equipment in two crackdowns

The Ghana Police Service’s Special Anti-Galamsey Task Force made a strong move against illegal mining on Friday, June 20, 2025, arresting three suspects and confiscating several pieces of mining equipment in the Central Region.

During a coordinated operation, the team first visited a mining site at Nikanika. Although no miners were caught there, the police recovered a loaded single-barrel shotgun and three water pumping machines.

The operation then shifted to Adeade, where three suspects — Prosper Quansah, Chrispin Nartey, and Owusu Gambra — were arrested. Police also seized a SANY excavator being transported on a lowbed trailer, along with four unregistered Haojin motorbikes and the trailer vehicle registered GN 2136-24.

These arrests and seizures mark a continued effort by the police to clamp down on illegal mining activities that have been damaging the environment and threatening communities. The Special Anti-Galamsey Task Force emphasized its commitment to intensifying such operations across the region to restore order and protect natural resources.

All suspects are now in police custody, assisting with investigations. The seized equipment has been secured by authorities as the crackdown on illegal mining continues.
